The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Manager, Base Metals Corporate Application to join our Technology team in Toronto. This is a permanent position. The role will manage teams of project managers and support analysts to ensure reliable delivery of Technology projects and sustainable support services.

Additionally, in this position you will be…

  • Accountable for managing project portfolios in the corporate area, including the planning and execution of the multiannual budget, monitoring of the business case, governance of implementation of the various initiatives, performance indicators and becoming the guardian of the future vision / Roadmap of Technology including end to end.
  • Managing of team of system analysts responsible for maximizing system availability in a cost-effective manner.
  • Developing and maintaining the end-to-end product lifecycle (strategy, design, development, implementation, improvements, support and decommissioning) for products accountable.
  • Actively engage as a member of the Technology Management Team and is expected to contribute directly to the overall direction and management of the IT Department and to the definition and achievement of the goals set for the Department, in the company’s on-going strategic plan for Technology.
  • Promoting the experimentation of new components of technology architecture, through proofs of concept and pilot projects.
  • Proactively define the vision and Technology Solutions Plan for the business areas, considering current scenario and anticipating future needs
  • Work with executive/senior level clients and Technology leadership team to develop the strategy of the business, direct strategy studies to identify the feasibility of Technology Solutions and promote the development of the business value of technical solutions.
  • Support the process of alignment and engagement with the main stakeholders of the projects, influencing the leadership in the adoption of the improvements of proposed processes and technologies, directing a change management strategy to minimize the impacts on the implementation of projects and maximize the return to the business.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and standards, especially those focused on cybersecurity and safety and is responsible for meeting technology audit requests related to the functional scope of the area.
  • Prospect and develop specialized suppliers and establish together with the supply area a strategic plan of technology partners.
  • Monitor the performance indicators of the area, acting proactively to avoid deviations and presents action plans for the deviations that are identified.
  • Develop and monitor annual capital and operational budgets through the development and implementation of an appropriate overall budgetary procedure.
  • Manage support contracts, maintenance, and new developments in accordance with compliance standards, ensuring the delivery of services and execution of the budget.
  • Respond to Audit exams in processes and contracts related to your area.
  • Work with Technology business partners to increase business awareness of implemented capabilities, and seek opportunities for benefit maximization (usability, exploitation).
  • Recognize Local, Regional and Global responsibilities and establish needed interactions.

About You

Education:

  • Undergraduate Degree

Skills and Experience:

  • 10+ years of experience leading multidisciplinary teams, implementing IT solutions in an industrial and corporate environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Agile and waterfall project implementation methodology.
  • 5 years of experience in a technology leadership position – managing people, budgets, developing strategy objectives and actions, and being an agent of change.
  • Strong track record of implementing and supporting technology solutions in industrial and corporate environments.
  • Experience with change management for major systems development. 
  • Experience in identification of technology solutions, performing system design, and building development estimates.
  • Strong track record in managing project and support teams that implement IT solutions in corporate production environments.  Solid understanding of IT technologies and the software development life cycle.

Our Team

The Industrial Mechanic / Millwright is integral for employee safety and Vale’s long-term operating strategy. Members of this team work across different locations to ensure all systems are functioning accurately. Team members are also involved in the development of long-term and short-term maintenance initiatives, practices and procedures.

The Port Colborne Refinery was commissioned 100 years ago on the shore of Lake Erie. Raw materials and finished products from Vale’s Sudbury and Newfoundland and Labrador operations are transported to Port Colborne for processing.

The Opportunity

We are currently seeking Industrial Mechanics / Millwrights to join our Maintenance Department in Port ColborneOntario. This is a permanent position.

As an Industrial Mechanic / Millwright, you will be responsible for installing and dismantling of equipment to inspecting and maintaining of equipment. Your experience and skills will contribute to interpreting instructions, sketches, drawings, templates, work orders, welding procedures and data sheets related to work assignments in either the shop or field. Additionally, in this position, you will:

  • To install, dismantle, assemble, construct, erect, move, replace, inspect, adjust, maintain and repair mechanical and process equipment and structures throughout mines and plants.
  • To install, inspect, service and test hoisting ropes and shaft conveyances.
  • Align with work safety policies and safety regulations.

About You

Fully Licensed Tradesperson:

  • Trade Certification:
    • Valid Industrial Mechanic/Millwright 433A trade certificate for the province of Ontario. OR. Valid Steamfitter 307A trade certificate for the province of Ontario.
    • Red Seal designation.
  • Experience: At minimum, 3 years of industrial experience is preferred.

Skills:

  • Experience in fabricating, installing and maintaining pressure piping, fiberglass, solvent welded, and natural gas systems including piping systems is preferred.
  • Experience installing and maintaining boilers and compressors is preferred.
  • Experience installing, maintaining and repairing hydraulic equipment, mechanical drives, conveyor systems, overhead cranes, pumps and equipment alignment is preferred.
  • Oxy acetylene cutting and burning, and mechanical blueprint reading would also be an asset.
